Former Ball State University center fielder Jeremy Hazelbaker signed a contract with the Boston Red Sox, ending any chance he would return for his senior season.

Hazelbaker was drafted in the fourth round of the MLB First-Year Player Draft on June 16. He was an All-Mid-American Conference selection this season after hitting .429 to lead the league.

The Red Sox have now signed 16 of their draft picks, including first round selection Reymond Fuentes, a high school outfielder from Puerto Rico.

Hazelbaker is the second Cardinal to sign a contract, joining pitcher Brenden Stines. Stines was drafted in the 33rd round by Houston and is pitching for their class A affiliate Tri-City. Catcher Zach Dygert was also drafted, but is not expected to sign with Washington, who took him in the 48th round.
