Today, four of the seven returning members and the incoming freshman of the Ball State University women's golf team will tee off in the Pepsi Indiana Women's Open.

The tournament will be the first for Kristtini Cain after being disqualified from the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship for missing her tee time.

Ball State women's golf coach Katherine Mowat said it is important for her golfers to continue to compete in tournaments during the off-season.

"They know the importance of continuing to play," Mowat said. "The more you play, the better you're going to be. If they have a great summer of tourney play, it will carry over into the season."

Mowat said the Indiana Women's Open is one of the two biggest tournaments her players enter during the summer. The other tournament is the Indiana Open Championship, which will be July 7 to 10 at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in Speedway.

There are 103 golfers entered in the Open. After the first round of the Open is played, golfers will be re-paired based on their scores and will compete in the final round on Tuesday.

Brittany Kelly will tee off in the second group at 8:09 a.m., followed by Katie Windlan at 8:45 a.m., Cain at 9:21 a.m. and Rachael Pruett at 9:39 a.m.
