A committee consisting of members from Downtown Development and the Downtown Business Council has decided to bring the Muncie trolley back for the last month of the Spring Semester, Cheryl Crowder, program manager of Downtown Development, said.
The trolley will run every 15 minutes starting at Reserve and University avenues at 9:50 p.m. and the last trip will leave downtown at 3:15 a.m. It will run on the weekends of April 17-18, April 24-25, May 1-2 and May 8-9, she said.
Crowder said the committee made the decision because the trolley has had "a lot of success" and people "start relaxing more" during the last month. She said the trolley costs $50 per hour to operate.
Crowder said the trolley was originally put in place because of poor downtown parking, but now it has been reserved for special events such as Muncie Gras and Muncie Music Fest.
Students are a key part of the trolley, Crowder said, because it is important to get them downtown and remember what downtown has to offer. Upcoming graduates also should want to come downtown for anything they need during the last month of their collegiate career, she said.
