'A Midsummer Night's Dream'

Junior public relations major Trevor Oakerson shares his experiences and views of campus events in the weekly blog for DN_Campus. Supporting campus departments and organizations is important to me. Whether it is the Daily News, Ball Bearings or another student organization, I think that everyone can learn from the high levels of student collaboration involved. To this end, I attended a performance of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream,” by the Department of Theatre and Dance this week. This production of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” merged elements of traditional theater with multimedia. For example, the group uses projection and video editing to enhance the performance while incorporating music by The Beatles. This use of technology made the...Senior showcase demonstrates grace, teamwork

Junior public relations major Trevor Oakerson shares his experiences and views of campus events in the weekly blog for DN_Campus. It was a busy week at Ball State. Between performances of “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” “Beauty and the Beast,” as well as a lecture presented by Bob Dotson, there was no shortage of material for this blog. Even so, I decided that I would write this week’s blog about “Artistry is Wisdom,” the dance department’s senior choreography showcase. The program highlighted the talents of eight senior dance majors: Justin Atienza-Spaeth, Stephanie Buller, Cayla Clark, Katie DeWitte, Molly Gower, Shannon Hanley, Sarah Ponto, Anna Scharer and Erin Spahr. Each choreographer has been working on his or her piece...DN_campus brings back the blog with night at the drag show

Junior public relations major Sarah Janiga returns to share her views and experiences of campus events in the weekly blog for DN_Campus. Saturday evening, I went to Ball Gym to support my friend Fred Robinson, a sophomore telecommunications major. He performed as “Baby Olivia” in the “Night of the Living Drag” show presented by Spectrum. The $442 raised will go to a nonprofit called Saving Orphans through Healthcare and Outreach. I feel as if the crowd’s energy was a direct result of the performers’ hard work and dedication. Audience members would go up to their favorite acts and give them money. SOHO, based in Indianapolis, helps orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) affected by HIV/AIDS. It is estimated that a child is orphaned by the...Week in Review | April 25

Sophomore public relations major Sarah Janiga shares her views and experiences of campus events in her weekly blog for DN_Campus. Shawn Vondran, the director for the Ball State Symphony Band, told audiences in Sursa Hall Friday night that he was very proud of what his students have accomplished during the past year. This was Vondran’s first year at the university, and he could not have looked happier to be on stage with his students. I’m very glad I went to see the Symphony Band and Wind Ensemble. Call me strange, but whenever I see groups like this perform, I get really excited and think of my days playing baritone horn in my high school band. Vondran, while discussing the pieces, told us that the bells we would hear in the music typically symbolize victory. I saw...Week in Review | April 4

Sophomore public relations major, Sarah Janiga, shares her views and experiences of campus events in her weekly blog for DN_Campus. Artifacts of Frank Grunwald’s childhood are on display at Holocaust museums all over the world, reminders of the dark places he’s been. Grunwald spoke to more than 100 Ball State students Wednesday during his lecture “My Holocaust Journey.” It’s important that we never forget what happened to the six million people murdered during the Holocaust. It is even more vital to the success of humanity as a whole that we work to prevent such mass atrocities like this from occurring. Grunwald was 6-years-old when the Nazis invaded his hometown of Prague. Within weeks of their arrival, anti-Semitic propaganda had taken hold. Movie...
