WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Cards open home season with loss to Southern Illinois

The Ball State University women's volleyball team opened play in the Active Ankle Challenge with a 3-1 (25-14, 25-19, 21-25, 25-17) loss to Southern Illinois University on Friday night.
The Cardinals (2-3), playing in their first home match of the season, were never able to get in a rhythm offensively, hitting .065 for the match
Leading the way for Ball State was junior outside hitter Julie Breivogel, who had a team-high 10 kills and three blocks. Defensively, sophomore libero Alyssa Rio contributed a game-high 25 digs for the Cardinals.
Ball State continues play in the Active Ankle Challenge at 12:30 p.m. Saturday against Tennessee Tech.
