Everything they did, every place they went, every second last offseason, Ball State University's football players had two words etched in their minds. Central Michigan. The Cardinals' 58-38 loss to the Chippewas last year left a bitter taste. It pushed the players in the weight room.

MEN'S BASKETBALL: Butler defeats Ball State 64-55

INDIANAPOLIS - In all-time meeting No. 100 against Butler University, the Ball State University men's basketball team trails the Bulldogs 31-29 at halftime in Hinkle Fieldhouse. Senior forward Anthony Newell has 10 points and six rebounds to lead the way for the Cardinals, while freshman center Jarrod Jones and senior guard Laron Frazier have six points.

FOOTBALL: No. 17 Ball State remains undefeated

The No. 17 Ball State University football team defeated Central Michigan University 31-24 tonight in Mount Pleasant, Mich. With the win, the Cardinals (11-0 Mid-American Conference) remain one of five undefeated teams in the Football Bowl Subdivision. In addition, if Ball State beats Western Michigan next week, the Cardinals will advance to the MAC Championship game.

The Ball State University women's volleyball team was able to take advantage of home court advantage in the opening round of the Mid-American Conference Tournament by defeating Eastern Michigan University 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 25-19) Tuesday night at Worthen Arena.

FOOTBALL: Six buses depart for Central Mich.

About 300 Ball State University students will leave on six buses at 2 p.m. Wednesday for the Ball State vs. Central Michigan game in Mount Pleasant, Mich. Student Government Association is sponsoring the buses that cost about $2,000 each, SGA president Frank Hood said.

In this week's Associated Press Poll, Ball State was ranked No. 14 with 714 votes and Central Michigan was listed No. 29 with 13 votes. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Free Agent Wells could take game overseas

The MAC's all-time leading scorer is in contact with NBA, international teams

Bonzi Wells has played for five NBA teams throughout his 10-year professional career. There is now a chance of the Mid-American Conference's all-time leading scorer taking his game overseas. Publicist Illana Nunn of BDA Sports, who represents Wells, said Monday that Wells is surveying offers from international basketball organizations.
