Students revive NAACP at Ball State
The Ball State University chapter of the NAACP began a recruitment drive Wednesday in the Art and Journalism Building.
Secretary Brent Lyle said after a 15-year absence, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has a chapter at Ball State University.
He said the NAACP recognized the chapter earlier in November and this was the first recruitment drive. He set up a table providing students with information about the organization and encouraged students to register with the group. About 15 people signed up at the drive, he said. No additional drives have been scheduled, he said, but more will probably come.
Every chapter needs a minimum 25 members, he said, and with the 15 recruited today, the group has enough members.
Lyle said Ball State hasn't had a chapter in 15 years due to lack of leadership.
The new chapter is the brainchild of president Candice Jackson, he said. She worked with the president of Indiana State University's NAACP to establish a branch at Ball State.
