When computer science graduate student Mary Fleming found herself surrounded by smoke in a Scheidler apartment Thursday she wasn't sure what to do. It wasn't long before she had trouble breathing. She started to panic and didn't know her next move. However, the spectacle was completely planned.

Suspects could get 8 years if convicted of Class C felonies

Three Ball State University students were arrested late Wednesday in connection with the thefts of almost $16,000 worth of musical instruments from Zionsville Community High School.
Shawn P. Blankenship, John Guilliam and Jillian Smith were taken to Boone County Jail where they were placed on $10,000 bail on charges of theft and burglary - both Class C felonies.

Frequent false triggers cause students to dismiss warnings

When freshman Christina Vasquez decided to stay the night with friends Tuesday in the Knotts/ Edwards tower of LaFollette Complex, she never expected to be woken up in the early morning hours by screeching fire alarms. In fact, Vasquez was so unsuspecting that when she heard the alarm, she and her friends ignored it for close to 20 minutes before evacuating.

Woman who sued university on racism claims faces felony charge

A Ball State University employee who filed a lawsuit against the university claiming she was harassed and racially discriminated against at work was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of threatening to shoot another employee, police said.
Maetta Vance, a University Banquet and Catering employee, was arrested on the charge of intimidation, a Class D felony, after Melissa Rubrecht, director of employee relations, told police that Vance made threatening comments about her, a Ball State Police report said.

The Ball State University Sports Administration program will be hosting a dodgeball tournament at 11 a.m. Saturday at the racquetball courts in Irving Gym.
The format of the tournament is 4-on-4 double elimination and each match consists of a best-of-three set.
