John Connor loves his two daughters - and his office shows it. His screensaver, a calendar on his wall and more than a dozen picture frames on his windowsill create a timeline of the years he has spent with Katelyn and Grace, the two children Connor and his wife adopted from China.

Alumnus gives unrestricted, 7-figure check to university

When David Letterman departed Ball State University on Sept. 7, 2007, he left more than a new building with his name on it.
The university's most prominent alumnus gave a seven-figure sum, not being released by the university, as an unrestricted gift.
The result is the Letterman Lecture Series, a new, annual group of speakers and workshops created to bring top professionals in the communication fields to Ball State.

Administration unwilling to pass publicly viewable assessments

Instructor evaluations are one step away from being available online after two resolutions successfully passed Wednesday's Student Government Association meeting.
The proposals will move forward to University Senate for final approval. If the measures are enacted, students would be able to evaluate instructors outside class, but evaluations would not be publicly viewable.

Ball State University is seeking students' input about which professors to grant a chance to teach their dream course.
Associate professor of sociology Mellisa Holtzman said students can nominate professors for the Excellence in Teaching Award through Dec.

The Multicultural Center and the Multicultural Advisers of Residence Life will have a Kwanzaa celebration in the Park Hall Multipurpose Room from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Ali Pickens, graduate assistant for the Multicultural Center, said the event will feature traditional celebratory Kwanzaa readings and songs, a performance by the Rhythm Dance Troupe and a meal comprised of African, Caribbean and South American Food.
