Junior Beka Fehrman's bike sits on a rack after being in a collision with a car Monday at the Scramble Light. The bike and car received damages, but no one was seriously hurt.

A Ball State student escaped serious injury Monday when her bicycle collided with a car near the Scramble Light.

Junior Beka Fehrman, 21, suffered scrapes and a slightly damaged bicycle in the crash. She said the collision left a dent in the car where she and her bicycle struck it.

The driver "said he was trying to pass a car," Fehrman said. She and the driver exchanged information and agreed to meet Tuesday at the University Police Department to settle for damages to her bicycle.

I'm the girl that got hit. The car was behind me and tried to get around me and turn right instead of patiently waiting...sorry about his luck, but he gets to pay for all the costs of my bike damage...he should have waited another 30 seconds.

It sounds as if this cyclist was following the rules of the road. Please have others who I have seen do the same! I see so many running stop signs and cutting off traffic. Also, regarding following laws, pedestrians should not cross when the light is green and traffic has the right of way. Lets ALL, cars, pedestrians, and bikes, follow the laws.

Um, rights? or allowed by law? Can you quote all 50 state statues that say that?

Cyclists in EVERY STATE have the same rights as motor vehicles on roadways. We are allowed to occupy the lane. More importantly, cyclists should NOT ride on the sidewalk - it's dangerous and illegal. Staying on the street - at least three feet from the curb - ensures that cyclists remain visible to motorists and stay safe.

anonymous, maybe you should look out for bikers too. we know you are oh so superior to us, but that doesn't mean you own the road.

A note to all freshman and other idiots just strolling campus without any consideration of vehicles, THIS COULD'VE BEEN ANY OF YOU!!! Look both ways! Stop texting and friggin look! Someday I'll hit one of you just to prove that a two ton car is MORE SUPERIOR. I'm considerate when looking out for students who just carelessly walk across the street without care, but some cars AREN'T!!!
