Director says Rec Services essential for students, university

Canceled classes and more than 13 inches of snow left few options for students.
Some of those viable options for students were the available open gyms, weight rooms, racquetball courts, basketball courts and other activities, thanks to Ball State University's Recreational Services.

The winter weather didn't stop the Ball State University women's swimming and diving team from leaving Muncie to travel to the Mid-American Conference Championships Tuesday.
"We're on the road and it's quite an adventure," co-coach Bob Thomas said Tuesday.

With leading scorer Skip Mills sitting out because of a concussion, Ball State University's men's basketball team needed everyone else to step up in his absence. Anthony Newell had a career high 21 points and earned his fifth career double double with 12 rebounds to lead the Cardinals to a 57-55 victory over Northern Illinois University Tuesday night.
