Dining facility provides comfort

Community areas, healthy food receive praise for Woodworth



Earthy tones, lounge chairs, TVs and soothing lights greet Ball State University students in the new Woodworth Commons. After only its second renovation in the past 10 years, the $5 million dining facility offers pizza, desserts, Starbucks coffee, salads and a grill station.

Whitlock encourages students to experience college to the fullest

Ball State University faculty members and guest speaker Jason Whitlock used the Freshman Convocation to stress that the audience take full advantage of the opportunities the university has to offer. The convocation began about 2 p.m. Sunday in Emens Auditorium and ended with group discussions about the Freshman Common Reader, "The Color of Water: A Black Man's Tribute to His White Mother" by James McBride.

Columnist says he won't donate until Collins leaves BSU

During Sunday's Freshman Convocation guest speaker Jason Whitlock spoke about his memories as a Ball State University student and football player. However, while on campus Monday, Whitlock, a columnist for FOX Sports, made comments about the current state of the athletic department that were less positive than his speech.

UPB plans week of events to welcome students to new year

Ball State University students can enjoy super-sized games at 5 p.m. today at the University Green as part of the University Program Board's Welcome Week. Matt Marshall, associate director for programs, said the week's events began with free Carter's hot dogs and snacks at the corner of McKinley and Riverside avenues on Monday.

Students bumper-to-bumper for parking passes
Ball State University students who needed parking permits endured pounding rain to find themselves waiting in line outside the Parking Services office for more than an hour Monday. Junior Amanda Goodwin said the wait was too long and was hardly bearable. "There's been nothing to do," she said.
