Heavy rains causes water to leak into North Quad basement

BLOOMFIELD - For the second time in a week, powerful winter thunderstorms produced at least one tornado in Indiana as they marched across the state, damaging homes and buildings.
The basement of Ball State University's North Quad experienced flooding when water from the rain seeped into the building late Tuesday or early Wednesday, said Kevin Kenyon, associate vice president of facilities planning and management.

Rep. Mike Pence, who serves the sixth district of Indiana, begins reauthorization of the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief this week.
The reauthorization will begin when the Foreign Affairs Committee in the House of Representatives takes up a bill called "The Global HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria Reauthorization Act of 2008," which will continue PEPFAR and increase its funds, Pence said.

Businesses, city benefit from profit more events to occur

Muncie Gras 2008 brought in about $30,000 in profits this year, which will help with the costs of future city-sponsored events, according to Cheryl Crowder, program manager of downtown development.
This year's 5,000-person turnout and profit rank midway among highs of 11,000 people in attendance and lows such as last year's 2,000, she said.

Health Education, along with National Panhellenic Council, will offer free HIV/AIDS testing today in observance of National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Health Educator Lisa Thomason said.
The testing is 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in L.A. Pittenger Student Center rooms 301 and 302, Thomason said.
