OUR VIEW: Vote Campus Alliance
AT ISSUE: Slates need to rely on each others' strengths
Charisma just isn't enough.
Andrews-Albritton '08 is a group of four personable, approachable people who gathered to try to change an organization on campus they felt was not functioning efficiently.
However, it takes in-depth knowledge of the organization to know what needs to stay the same in order to make an effective, positive change.
Campus Alliance has two people with Student Government Association experience as well as two completely fresh faces who will provide the perspective that AA '08 would have brought.
Campus Alliance boasts knowledge of running SGA and knows how to maintain stability and make a smooth transition between slates.
Campus Alliance also has relationships with several administrators who work in various capacities across the university, which will make accomplishing platform goals easier and subsequently allow more to be accomplished.
At their cores, both slates have strengths and weaknesses. An abundance of weaknesses, actually. We feel as if we are choosing the lesser of two evils, which is what politics and voting routinely comes down to.
Campus Alliance should be open to the idea of combining the strengths of both slates to create an SGA that is poised to succeed and bring change. This can be done, and we hope it is.
AA '08, we hope you stick around in SGA and bring your strengths to the table and work together to achieve your goals with Campus Alliance if they're elected.
This works the other way too, AA '08, if you're elected.
Campus Alliance's goal of changing the Writing Competency Exam would be wonderful.
However, AA '08's goal of changing meal plans is also good and would benefit students.
Campus Alliance's determination to bring a resource-awareness week to campus in order to educate students about all of the resources at their fingertips would benefit the entire university.
As could AA '08's goal of increasing campus awareness and pride among all organizations.
No matter who is elected, one thing is clear:
For the first time in awhile, it seems that things at SGA might actually change.
For better or worse is for you to decide when you cast your vote.
Voting starts at 7:45 a.m. Wednesday and closes at 6:45 p.m. Thursday at bsu.edu/votebsu.

Congrats DN for endorsing the right slate. I think it's obvious that they are the best one for campus and I am positive that they will bring the right amount of change and knowledge to the table. (Continued…)

6 years in a row you have endorsed a SGA related slate! Nothing changes with this newspaper.

If promising lofty and unreasonable things for campus doesn't seal the deal for you, get the support of the newspaper. This is last year's election all over again. (Continued…)

5 years straight the Daily News has endorsed the slate with so-called, "SGA experience" and look where SGA is at today?
-the Student Senate is half full (time and time again)
-the budget has been used for track jackets, SGA t-shirts, Daily News ads, and fire-works
-under 5,000 students vote in the SGA election and even a smaller % participate in the organization
-"Multi-culturalism" equates to supporting a "Center", instead of fighting for a Core Class which could incorporate: "socio-economics, class structure, ethnic studies, religious studies, gender studies, sexual studies, anthropology, sociology all in one, but you don't. (Continued…)

The DN has chosen poorly in this instance. AA.08 definitely has the know and required skills necessary to run a very successful SGA. I am sorry, but I don't believe that being able to list administrators at certain post is an impressive enough attribute to gain the endorsement of the DN. (Continued…)

AA08 have no substance, when asked how they would perform their respective positions Andrea Watts replied "I'll talk to Zac Davis(the current Treasurer). (Continued…)

How can they claim that they represent change when Campus Alliance is clearly just an extension of the current (and failing) SGA executive board? UNITED has not brought anything useful to campus. (Continued…)

I think SGA is a complete waste of our money. It is just a way for the liberals of this campus to pad their resumes without helping this campus. They may put on some "multicultural love the world we should all sing give peace a chance and talk about feminism" program, but that would be about the end of it. (Continued…)

Ryan Semen. What a waste of space and voice to this university. I really do feel bad for your fraternity because I'm sure there are some really great guys in there, but you make them all look like ASSHOLES. (Continued…)
