BSU opens MAC play with losses to Ohio, two wins vs. Akron

The Ball State University softball team came out flat this weekend, leading to a 2-2 record to begin Mid-American Conference play.
Ohio University (12-11, 2-2 MAC) swept Ball State (20-16, 2-2 MAC) in a doubleheader Friday, 10-6 and 2-0. The Cardinals then evened out their conference record by sweeping the University of Akron (10-20, 0-4 MAC) Saturday and Sunday, 4-3 and 9-1.

BSU beats Akron after being shut out in match at Buffalo

The Ball State University women's tennis team was shut out 7-0 by Mid-American Conference preseason favorite University at Buffalo on Friday before coming back to squeeze by the University of Akron 4-3 Saturday. The Cardinals (8-6, 1-2 MAC) were unable to capitalize on their chances to claim the doubles point early in the match against Buffalo (7-5, 2-1 MAC), who lost to Miami University on Saturday.

Cardinals to play challenging course in two-day event

With confidence from a win last week at the Butler Spring Invitational, the Ball State University women's golf team will look to continue the momentum into the Tina Barrett Invitational.
Coach Katherine Mowat said she thinks the win from last week will help the Cardinals as they enter Monday and Tuesday's 54-hole invitational.

Posting a 302 and 297, the Ball State University men's golf team tied for seventh in the rain-shortened Adidas Hoosier Invitational.
Due to rain and wet course conditions in Bloomington, the third round of the 54-hole tournament was unable to be completed.

McLemore, Twyman will leave Ball State after limited first year

After a trying 6-24 season for the Ball State University men's basketball team, two freshmen who were recruited by the Cardinals' previous coach have elected to leave the program.
Freshmen Deontay Twyman and Rashaun McLemore have decided to attend other schools next season.

The first season of the Nadalie Walsh era for Ball State University gymnastics is in the books as the Cardinals finished sixth in the Mid-American Conference Championship on Saturday.
The Cardinals (1-12) turned in a score of 192.100, while host Kent State University won the championship 195.

The Ball State University track and field team will have to wait another week to open its outdoor season.
Due to bad weather and poor track conditions, the Rocket Team Challenge, which was scheduled for Saturday, was canceled. The University of Toledo, which was to play host to the event, reported that the meet will not be rescheduled.
