With confidence from a win last week at the Butler Spring Invitational, the Ball State University women's golf team will look to continue the momentum into the Tina Barrett Invitational.

Coach Katherine Mowat said she thinks the win from last week will help the Cardinals as they enter Monday and Tuesday's 54-hole invitational.

"We're expecting to have a great tournament," she said. "Every time we go to a tournament, our goal is to win."

The Cardinals will be up against 14 teams at this week's invitational, which is taking place at the Manor Resort Golf Club in Farmville, Va.

Mowat said the Cardinals practiced the course Sunday.

Brittany Kelly, who leads the Cardinals in average, said the course is challenging.

"It's an awesome course," she said. "The greens are really nice. You just have to place the ball exactly where you want to hit it."

The course will be challenging, Mowat said, but she doesn't think it will hamper her team.

"I definitely think it sets up for our team," she said. "I don't know that there is any type of course that would hamper our play. I think we are very good to adjusting to the conditions."

Although Ball State is now in Virginia instead of Indiana, Mowat said, the weather is not much better than what the team experienced at Butler. It is cold and rainy, she said, but it is expected to warm up a little Monday. The rain will probably be a constant throughout the event, she said.

Kelly said Ball State's goal is to finish among the leaders.

"I think we all just want to put together some great team rounds this week and place high," she said.
