Ball State University men's basketball assistant coach Jim Molinari has accepted the head coaching position at Western Illinois University and will leave the Cardinals.

WGEM-TV in Quincy, Ill., reported late Thursday night that Molinari had beaten out Ray Harper, former longtime coach at Oklahoma City University of the NAIA, for the Leathernecks' coaching job.

Prior to arriving at Ball State, Molinari had been interim head coach at University of Minnesota during the 2006-07 season. Molinari has also previously been head coach at Bradley University, where he took the Braves to the 1996 NCAA tournament, as well as at Northern Illinois University.
