Faculty, staff, families attend picnic festival that celebrates

The celebration of the 90th year of Ball State University got off to a festive start Thursday at the fourth annual Ball State Family Picnic in the Quad. Ball State faculty, staff and their families attended the event. University President Jo Ann Gora said she viewed this year's picnic as a perfect opportunity for members of the university community to celebrate their accomplishments.

Ball State, professor rush to give Ben Smith his diploma

Although Ben Smith was diagnosed with colon cancer and fought it for four years, it never stifled his dreams. He foresaw a future where he graduated from Ball State University and became a probation officer. He continued to travel and started a family with his wife, Mindy.

About 30 people attend event; location creates buzz in city

Barack Obama office opens in downtown Muncie
Despite Indiana being a state that typically goes red, that didn't stop Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama from opening an office in downtown Muncie on Saturday. Five other locations opened across the state on Saturday. The other offices are located in Evansville, Fishers, Fort Wayne, South Bend and Lafayette.

Doug Jones loses costumes to play in "My Name is Jerry"

Ball State University alumnus Doug Jones returns to Muncie to star in a collaboration between Ball State affiliations and professional organizations. "My Name is Jerry" starts shooting today and will be filmed entirely in Muncie by both professionals in the entertainment field and Ball State students.

Tournament has two compete in first year, 23 participate this year

Event benefits players
Walking into Muncie's Northwest YMCA on Saturday, a tennis tournament takes place. It wasn't a typical tennis tournament, though, but the third McCann Memorial Wheelchair Open. And for tournament organizer Joy Wegener, it is a tournament for the benefit of players with physical disabilities.
