As a senior at Ball State University, Brad Buhle said he understands the trouble Hoosiers encounter when trying to purchase alcohol. Indiana is one of 15 states that still has the prohibition-era blue laws in place that prohibit the carryout sale of alcohol on Sunday.

Founder cites insurance, rent, vandalism, theft for closing

The Launching Pad is closing its doors, making it the second business in a week to announce it was leaving the Village.
Alan Maugherman, The Launching Pad founder, said the music venue was closing Nov. 1 after a unanimous decision by the Full Circle Arts Co-op, the group that runs the business.

Administration says it expects upward trend to continue

Ball State University's total fall enrollment increased to 20,243, up by 394, after decreasing for the past three school years.
Tom Taylor, vice president for enrollment, marketing and communications, said Ball State was turning a corner and would continue to grow in coming years because the smaller classes of past years were graduating and being replaced by larger freshman classes.

Democratic chair: Most last-minute registrants ever

Delaware County Democratic chairwoman Marge Landers didn't think the last day of voter registration would be like this.
Lines of last-minute registrants formed outside the county voter registration office all day. Monday's walk-in crowd became more than 500 registration forms waiting to be processed.

Undefeated team record attributed for increased interest

Ball State University experienced record crowds during Homecoming not only for the Sept. 27 football game, but also for the week of events.
Michelle Johnson, adviser to the Homecoming Steering Committee, said Ball State's undefeated season, the earlier week of Homecoming during the football season and the weather contributed to the records.

Ball State study: 160,000 jobs lost because of increase

The minimum wage increase that resulted in padded pocketbooks for some Ball State University students inadvertently cost others their jobs.
According to a study released Sept. 24 by Ball State's Bureau of Business Research, July's minimum wage increase was responsible for the loss of about 160,000 jobs in the U.

Driver said she did not see student traveling road

A Ball State University student remains with a twisted bicycle and a sprained ankle after being struck by a driver at the intersection of McKinley and University avenues Friday.
Sophomore Dakota Smith was riding his bicycle west on University Avenue when Nancy Cunnington turned left onto McKinley, and she hit him.

Bill Barich offers advise to students who want to write

Bill Barich's rhythmic voice filled a conference room in Bracken Library on Monday night as the audience enjoyed cookies, punch and a reading from Barich's novel "Carson Valley."
The book, published in 1998, follows the stories of workers of the Torelli vineyard.
