San Francisco 49ers quarterback Nate Davis (7) escapes the grasp of the Oakland Raiders' Jay Richardson during fourth quarter action in a preseason game at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, California, Saturday, August 22, 2009. The 49ers defeated the Raiders, 21-20.

Nate Davis has been given a second chance with the San Francisco 49ers.

After clearing waivers on Wednesday afternoon, the 49ers welcomed Ball State's former quarterback back to their team as a member of the practice squad, according to the Sacramento Bee.

The 49ers released quarterback Jarrett Brown from the practice squad to make room for Davis. The NFL allows all 32 teams to sign eight players to the practice squad.

Davis could still be signed by any team and placed on their active roster at any time. He will earn $88,400 if he remains on the 49ers practice squad the entire 2010 season, much less than his 2009 salary of $400,000.

With Davis' return, the 49ers' quarterback corps consists of Alex Smith, David Carr and Troy Smith.

There was early speculation from multiple blogs, including the Sacramento Bee, that the Seattle Seahawks were interested in signing Davis, but head coach Pete Carroll said the organization was satisfied with their current quarterbacks.
