The vast majority of us will be home for Thanksgiving the rest of the week. But, if you live in the area or are not going home for any reason — you hate your family, your family hates you, you can't afford a plane ticket, etc. — there are a few fun things to do during the break.
The Fickle Peach is having its Thanksgiving Eve Jam on Wednesday at 10 p.m. The Jam will feature live music by Pray for Mojo and Friends and there is no cover.
If you're not too hung over Thursday, run or walk the Cardinal Greenway Turkey Trot. Running three miles is a good way to make yourself feel like sitting on the couch and watching Thanksgiving football later in the day.
The Blue Bottle is having an open house Friday to show off its recently completed renovation that expanded its seating capacity by 140 percent. It's become more than a little coffee shop downtown. It also expanded its menu to include breakfast, appetizers, salads, sandwiches, desserts and five entrees.
The Strange and Deranged Showcase is visiting The Heorot on Friday night. The show features "real human oddities" including Jackie the Human Tripod, who will perform her amazing acrobatics, and Satan John with his "arms like that of a Tyrannosaurus Rex," who be electrocuted on stage.
That's not even everything. There will be sword swallowing, juggling, a clown, devices of torture and more. It starts at 9 p.m., costs $6 and is a 21 and older show.
You can go have dinner and a few drinks at the Blue Bottle before heading to the sideshow at the Heorot.
Unfortunately, most of us won't be able to attend these events, especially the sideshow. But if you're in town, they promise to be great fun.
So spending break in beautiful, sunny Muncie will have some consolations. When else are you going to have the chance to see a guy get electrocuted? And, at least your house has less of a chance of being robbed if you're here.
