Sophomore guard Patrice King drives the ball past Ball State opponent Northern Arizona Saturday afternoon at Worthen Arena. The Cardinals won their game with a final score of 74-69.

The streak is over. Ball State University (2-2) junior forward Emily Maggert’s three-game streak of posting double-doubles came to an end Tuesday night at the hands of Valparaiso University (3-1).

Despite the string of great performances coming to an end for Maggert, the Cardinals still found a way to upend the Crusaders 71-64. Instead of Maggert posting a great night it was Danielle Gratton and a few other Cardinals carrying the load together.

Ball State got off to a quick start, taking the lead early and never relinquished it. A solid run midway through the first half gave the Cardinals firm control going into the locker room up 11, 33-22.

The second half saw the Crusaders rally and apply pressure. Kelly Peller and Lauren Kenney put together a run early in the second half. Two minutes in and the Crusaders pulled within three off a Peller bucket.

That would be as close as Valparaiso would get however. At 37-34, Ball State rode the success of Gratton and Audrey McDonald to pull back away.

Gratton tallied 17 points while McDonald posted 11 and Patrice King added 10 to lead the way offensively.

Maggert finished with nine points after being keyed on by the Crusader defense. Despite the attention, Maggert was still able to take 14 shot attempts from the floor. Unfortunately, only three fell for junior.

Valparaiso forward Lauren Kenney managed 16 points while Betsy Adams posted 13.
Tuesday night was the best performance by the Cardinals with turnovers. Ball State committed a season low 15.
